PressFlex camera design

Now that the technical field camera is finished I’ve started work on a new camera that uses the same Mamiya Press lens mount but instead of full movements, it has similar movements as a Hasselblad FlexBody (front extension, front tilt, and rear shift.) The nice feature of this camera is that the front and rear plates are mounted on linear bearings with lead screws, so the camera movements should be silky smooth and it will have the ability to focus when using a large format lens. Like the medium format technical field camera, this camera will use a 6×9 120 roll film back. Construction of this camera is entirely machined Aluminum (with a few brass bits.)

More camera work

The first Mamiya Press lens technical camera is almost finished! I’m currently redesigning/machining new uprights for the front that will be a big improvement.

Making a technical field camera

I began working on another film camera for my friend Frank Jackson- this time a medium format technical field camera using a Mamiya Press lens and a Horseman 6×9 movable back. Unlike the 4×5 view camera, this one is entirely made from Aluminum (primarily machined on my Nomad3 CNC mill.) This will be quite a bit more compact then the 4×5, while still having the ability to have camera movements.
